Program Description

Are you fascinated by the intricacies of criminal investigations, the psychology of perpetrators, and the chilling realities of true crime stories?

Join the library's True Crime Book Club for an exploration into the captivating and often unsettling world of real-life crimes. We'll delve into a variety of true crime narratives, from infamous cases and unsolved mysteries to in-depth investigations and survivor stories.

How did a family of three doctor-brothers from Brooklyn become the most hated dynasty in America? Empire of Pain is a three-act tragedy that chronicles the rise of the Sackler family—from Arthur Sackler’s revolution in medical advertising to the aggressive marketing of OxyContin by Purdue Pharma. We will explore the intersection of extreme wealth, philanthropy, and the opioid crisis, discussing how the Sacklers used their billions to buy respectability while their company’s product fueled a national epidemic.

True Crime Book Club meets the first Saturday every other month. Copies each selecion are available for checkout at the library.
